Garnet - A Montana Ghost TownMonte Dolack 28" x 24" 2003 This piece portrays Garnet Ghost Town, in western Montana which was a mining town, but was abandoned in the early 1900s. It was named for the semi precious gem called the garnet, which was the first item mined in the town. As many as 1,000 people lived here in its heyday the late 1800s. It was abandoned when the gold ran out. In 1912, half of the town was destroyed in a fire, and never rebuilt. It is now preserved by the B.
